Significant omissions

Omissions in Part 3, Tract 2, Book 1, prologue and chapters 1-5

If a passage is omitted in one or more MSS, then (unless the omission can readily be supplied by conjecture) those MSS are not the direct or indirect source or MSS in which the passage is included -- unless some other MSS has also been consulted. On the other hand, omissions common to several MSS do not show a common source if they are such as could easily occur by coincidence.

The following are omissions from one or more MSS of passages found in all other MSS:

Other omissions in Part 3, tract 2

The following are omissions noticed while preparing A Letter to the Friars Minor. Omissions noted below suggest that the MSS collated in preparing that volume (namely AuBaDiFrMzNaPbToRdReTo) are (except for AuPb) independent of one another. Until we collate the other MSS we cannot rule out the possibility that these may be exemplars or copies of other MSS. References below are by page and line number to the Goldast edition.

So far we have found no omissions that rule out the possibility that Pb is a copy of Au. On the other hand, Au was not copied from Pb, since there are passages omitted by Pb and not by Au, namely:
880.30 divinae esse ignarus, non tamen tenebatur sacerdotes;
935.30-1, ita . . . suo.

Au and Pb also omit the following, which the other MSS listed above do not omit:
872.50 vel efficere . . . unum;
879.42 quia . . . licita.

The remaining manuscripts omit passages found in other MSS:

Omitted from Re and Na and not from others:
880.24-5 maior . . . nituntur.
Neither of NaRe is a direct copy of the other. Re does not have a number of passages found in Na:
872.20-1 ac . . . implicatus;
879.61-2 unde . . . temporale;
880.24-5 maior . . . nituntur;
933.29-31 non . . . gentium.
At 933.36 at dicto Na, but not Re, adds: quod enim non fiat restitutio commodatae pecuniae nec depositae rei est de iure naturae secundo modo.

On the other hand, Na does not have some passages found in Re:
874.38-9 quia . . . permansisent;
880.38 loquens . . . ait;
931.60-1 vel . . . imperatoribus.
935.4-5 after eligendi: ex . . . nec.
